Listening Across Indiana: A Statewide Community Engagement Update

As Women’s Foundation of Indiana continues its statewide expansion, we are spending this year listening, learning and building relationships across the state.

Our first two Women’s Listening Circles took place in Gary and South Bend, and I am still thinking about the honesty and truth that women in both communities brought into the room. We heard clearly that women need stronger support in health care, more opportunities for economic freedom and representation among the lawmakers and leaders making decisions that affect their lives.

We heard the barriers women are navigating, the support that already exists and the future women and girls want to build for themselves, their families and their communities.

Gary and South Bend were only the beginning. In the coming months, we will continue hosting Women’s Listening Circles across Indiana to hear directly from women about what they need to thrive.

Upcoming listening sessions include:

Night of 100 Women on June 23
Fort Wayne on July 9
Anderson on July 16

We are also continuing the hard work of developing our first State of Women in Indiana Report. This report will pair statewide and regional data with what we are hearing directly from communities, giving us a clearer picture of where support, advocacy and investment are needed most.

This work takes time and trust. We are grateful to every person who has shared their story, asked hard questions, offered insight and helped us see their community more clearly.

If there is something you wish you had shared, or if you have a story, concern or idea you would like us to hear, we invite you to share it through our listening form.

Thank you for helping shape this statewide work.
